Senior chefs in Hungary have left their restaurants to prepare fine meals for hospital workers who are under severe pressure to face the spread of the emerging corona virus. "This meal may not look fancy, when you're in a heated plastic box in the microwave," said Lagos Takacs, 47, a member of the chef group behind the initiative. After restaurants in Hungary were closed to curb the spread of the new Corona virus, Takacs and other chefs running the Hungarian Food Tasting Association decided not to hang their aprons.

Hungary has so far reported 300 Covid-19 injuries and 10 deaths, but the numbers are expected to rise sharply.

"We are in a time similar to the time of war, and there are workers on the front lines that risk their health to do their job, which is the least we can do for them," said Tamas Molnar, 65, who is president of the Hungarian Gastronomy Society.

Since the launch of the initiative, two weeks ago, food donations in large quantities every day reach the spacious kitchen provided by a friend of them, located in a luxurious area in the Hungarian capital Budapest. "With simple ingredients, we can prepare high-quality meals for hospital staff, and they are easy to eat under work pressure," Molnar said. 100 meals are prepared per week, and meals are provided to Budapest hospitals that treat patients with the "Corona" virus.
