Was singing in French a real challenge for you?

I started making music ten years ago and have always sung in English. I was in a group, our influences were American, we listened to pop punk like Blink 182 or Sum 31. So I'm not used to writing in French, it's a completely different exercise. When you sing in English you don't have the same timbre of voice, it's not the same vocal technique, the same articulation. In terms of interpretation too. I usually sing Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray, for example, the melody is perfect, beautiful, so in terms of interpretation you can be smoother, it's less demanding. There, Christophe's Blue Words , it's not complicated to sing at the technical level, but you have to tell the story and that, I had never done it. The challenge was there.

The challenge has been met. Did that make you want to sing more in French?

Absolutely. Since the battles, I had this click to tell me that I was not at The Voice for nothing. I want to use this adventure as validation of the fact that I am a real singer and that I can interpret a text in French. Having chosen a French song for me takes me out of my comfort zone. During this battle, I find that I did not really manage to make a good performance but Pascal Obispo [his coach] understood the effort that I could make. Since then, I train a lot more, I am less afraid of my voice in French. In writing, it is more complicated because the language is less melodious, musical, than English.

When you heard Amel Bent and Marc Lavoine lean more in favor of Tristan at the end of the battle, you were afraid to leave?

No. I found it logical. Tristan really showed up on this track. He was perfect, well in his boots, perfect. When Pascal chose me, I was shocked. I was already ready to go to the right side, where those who do not win their battle are heading.

What made the difference was your "polymorphic" voice, as Lara Fabian pointed out. Do you work on all these voices where they come to you spontaneously?

It's quite natural. What is funny is that, before The Voice , I was not aware of this polymorphism in my voice. I never took singing lessons, I had a hard time adjusting my voice so I experienced it as a handicap. It was therefore at The Voice , during the first casting, that I was told about my different voices. I then became aware of all this. Before it was natural for me to rap, to sing in my head voice, to shout. Now I have to work on it, there are several voices that are not yet well placed.

You had confided in an interview to "Télé 7 Jours" to have long had a priori on "The Voice". Are they behind you now?

The a priori immediately evaporated. When Charles, a casting person, contacted me on Instagram, he destroyed the misconceptions I had: entering a commercial box, for example. Then I quickly realized that it was very human: the members of the production are almost our ages, they have the same delusions as us. We exchange phone numbers, we call each other, we follow each other on Instagram, there is a really good atmosphere. It is a very strong experience.
