  • While Italy is struggling with the coronavirus epidemic, the lack of medical resources would be much more serious than we think, according to a Facebook publication.
  • The latter affirms, with supporting photos, that Italian hospitals are running out of space so much that they are forced to install their patients outside.
  • But these pictures have nothing to do with Italy since they were taken in a maternity hospital in Zagreb, Croatia, shortly after an earthquake last Sunday.

Outdoor beds, patients wrapped in blankets, mothers holding their babies in their arms ... Judging by a series of photos shared on social networks and by the legend that accompanies it, the health situation linked would be so serious in Italy that hospitals are forced to install some of their patients in the open air.

"It's Italy. There is no more space in hospitals. Think twice before putting your foot outside the house, "said the comment on a Facebook post repeating these different shots - but deleted since.

However, if Italy lacks certain medical means, these pictures were not taken on the peninsula, but in Zagreb, shortly after the Croatian capital suffered an earthquake of magnitude 5.3, Sunday March 22 , in the midst of the Covid-19 epidemic.

FAKE OFF

The reverse image search allows to go back to multiple articles - all countries combined - evoking the consequences of this disaster, which hit the city early this Sunday and left at least 17 injured.

We find in particular the photo showing women with babies in their arms in a tweet posted shortly before 8 am on March 22, with the only caption "Petrova maternity". And the user said in the process: "Everything is fine at this stage, neither the mothers nor the babies have been injured, everyone is taking care of them".

As we can see on Google Maps, the premises that we see in this photo correspond well to those of the Petrova maternity. The Croatian daily Večernji had also filmed the evacuation of the premises live: we see the cubic building in the background and medical equipment in the outside of the hospital.

We also find, in Večernji's article on the subject, several "photos of readers" taken up in the viral Facebook post - including patients wearing a mask and bundled up in blankets, seated near a tree.

“Hospitals were particularly affected by the tremors. Young mothers rushed out of the maternity unit, babies in their arms, in pajamas and hospital gowns. All patients have been evacuated until further notice and priority has been given to the evaluation and restoration of healthcare facilities ", La Croix said, while a video relayed by The Independent shows the army evacuating the medical equipment in a truck.
