During the confinement linked to the coronavirus, the French are called upon to temporarily store their used electrical and electronic products at home, said the body responsible for collecting and processing these products, this Wednesday.

The collection focuses on the emergencies of communities and distributors, explained the organization Ecosystem, which invites everyone "to adopt a responsible behavior".

No return of old devices

"To contribute to compliance with containment measures and limit collection operations as much as possible, Ecosystem asks consumers not to go to a recycling center during the containment period and not to bring devices to recycle when traveling in large food surface ".

In addition, many deliverers of new devices are not allowed to take back old devices to limit contact as much as possible, we add.

Do not throw them or put them on the sidewalk

The organization recommends storing devices and lamps for recycling or giving them away when the situation returns to normal. "Above all, do not throw this equipment into household waste and do not put it on the sidewalk to avoid any risk of pollution," he said. Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is priority waste because it contains pollutants.

At the request of the public authorities, Ecosystem always ensures the collection of certain collection points still receiving WEEE and who request it. In addition, four online sales platforms are still in operation and take back old equipment when possible.
