  • "20 Minutes" interviewed the pro of the crunchy gourmet, ready to share his tips and entertain the French during confinement.

Already more than a week that the French are locked up at home in order to slow down the spread of the Covid-19, and the time can start to get long ... Isn't this the opportunity to start cooking? From this Tuesday, Cyril Lignac invites himself into your home daily with Tous in the kitchen live , from 6.45pm. The principle ? "A giant cooking class across France", broadcast live on M6, where internet users can interact with the chef.

But no stress, no need to revise and immerse yourself in all the seasons of Top Chef , the time is for relaxation, sharing and crunchy gourmet. Cyril Lignac answered 20 Minutes' questions by phone, confinement requires.

How do you live this period of confinement?

I am not very calm for my businesses, I still closed everything, restaurants, pastries ... We do not know what will happen next. And as for me, I live it rather calmly because I'm not sick, we are locked up at home but we can find ways to distract ourselves. I tell myself that it is like that, that we must not mess around and that it is important to remain confined so that everyone takes care of themselves and that we get out of this health war as quickly as possible.

Was putting yourself in the kitchen during this period obvious to you?

I am not often at home, I have a lot of work and I come home late, restaurants and pastries take a lot of my life because it is my passion and I am lucky to live on that. So being at home allows me to take the time, to do things that I never have the time to do ... But also to do nothing! It feels good too. Read, write my new cards, think of new flavors, create… And then, moreover, cook everyday life that I don't do. I cook professionally but not everyday. What is great is that I start to cook with the products in the cupboard, I only go shopping for groceries every three days… It keeps me busy and I love it! I made myself a soup there, potimarron potatoes with small croutons of bread and saint-nectaire… Damn it was good! Simple pleasures.

Is cooking an activity that relaxes you?

Everyone I meet tells me that baking relaxes them. I laugh because it tends to me! No, I'm kidding, but it's my job, when I make cakes it's still a pressure because it has to be done well. So I admit that it does not relax me. But since I was confined, I found this pleasure of making a good cake, stuffed cabbage, curry, chocolate mousse ... And I find it cool! I always say that in introspection like that, you never come out the same. Doors close, others open, you discover things about yourself, about others, about your way of living, of thinking ... This time of introspection made me see that I was no longer approaching the home kitchen to cook for me. And there I took kif to make a blanquette of veal while I never do that!

So you decided to invite the cameras to your kitchen?

The principle is a giant cooking class across France, live on M6 from my home with four families in the four corners of France, connected by Skype to the set. They cook at the same time as me. You make the recipe at the same time as me and in 52 minutes, you eat! What interests me in this is that it is entertainment, that people say "we're going to cook with Cyril" and that's what is nice!

So are you going to offer rather simple dishes?

It is not the chef who speaks, but Cyril who, like all French people, goes shopping downstairs. The idea is therefore to cook with everyday products. For example this Tuesday we are going to make a toast of toast with tuna mixed with fresh cheeses, pickles, spices and hard-boiled eggs mimosa. It will be served with a vegetable wok with quinoa and honey soy sauce [the list of ingredients and recipes are available on the cuisineaz.com website and on M6's social networks].

So you don't have to be particularly good at cooking or have a lot of equipment?

It is not the goal. The principle is not to give a masterful cooking class. We are in a period of confinement, it's hard, people are at home, we can't have everything we want, so the goal is to adapt to this period and bring joy and good humor!
