Decathlon reminded this Tuesday that its full mask EasyBreath underwater exploration does not constitute an effective barrier against the coronavirus. The product of the big brand has indeed been presented by Internet users from several countries as an alternative to protective masks, explains BFM TV. Information has been widely relayed in the face of the shortage of these accessories to combat the spread of Covid-19.

"The Easybreath mask (...) was not designed for this use," said Decathlon in a press release. “The brand therefore recommends not to modify the mask by yourself; this could impact its functioning, particularly with regard to air flows ”.

An application in Italy

The group indicates, however, that it has agreed to collaborate in the research of "certain research centers in France and abroad". He announced that he had transmitted "the 3D plan of the Easybreath mask (…) in order to carry out tests and thus see if the product can - or not - be adapted". A spokesperson for the brand, however, explained to BFM TV that "if this were the case, it would still require the authorization of the health authorities to use it".

The Italian company Isinnova for its part claims to have successfully used in a hospital in the country a method of connecting the mask to a breathing aid device. Specialists have printed a valve in 3D for this. The prototype has not received any official authorization or certification, recall its creators.
