The platform received more than 900 calls and 200 emails in six days. - Clément Carpentier / 20 Minutes

  • The Bordeaux University Hospital has set up a "special Covid-19" unit to answer all questions from healthcare professionals.
  • Composed of teachers, doctors, interns, paramedics ... The multidisciplinary platform has received more than 1,000 requests in the past week.
  • Questions about chloroquine and its derivative hydroxychloroquine are increasing in recent days.

A real little hive. Open 7 days a week, a cell made up of doctors, interns and paramedics has been answering all questions from healthcare professionals about the Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic since Wednesday. Created in 2015 at the Bordeaux University Hospital, the Ville Hop project has taken on a new dimension in recent days. Instead of several direct lines to reach a specialist, it is now a real telephone platform with a unique number and email address.

In all, nearly 70 people take turns every day from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. “The objective is to respond and reassure our colleagues who are overwhelmed with information in recent days. Sometimes contradictory information. Some cannot find their way. We are also there to relieve a little on the 15th (Samu), ”explains Professor Patrick Blanco. They are 12 (eight doctors or interns and four paramedics) able to answer all questions at the same time.

This ranges from the health professional concerned about his health after the onset of symptoms, to the doctor who needs advice in full consultation with a patient, including a nurse or a nursing assistant who wonders about the state of health of a person elderly of a EHPAD. “In six days, we received 900 calls and 200 emails. More than half come from general practitioners who are often on the front line. The calls can last five minutes as half an hour, it is very variable, underlines doctor Léo Donzel, specialist in pharmacy.

Since the beginning of the week, questions have obviously multiplied on chloroquine and its derivative hydroxychloroquine because "everyone is wondering about these studies and many are devoid of the use or not of medication", recalls the Professor Charles Cazanave, infectious disease specialist at the Bordeaux University Hospital. It is also for this reason that on this platform some people make a bibliographic watch to know everything that is happening and is said on the Covid-19.

Calls from residential care facilities for dependent elderly people are increasing with the acceleration and spread of the epidemic. This special unit has also set up a mobile geriatric team which visits the nursing homes of the Bordeaux conurbation if there is any doubt.

It is complementary to 15

For Mathilde, infectious disease doctor, “the strength of this platform is that it is multidisciplinary with many specialties are represented. "It also helps to identify, for example, the lack of equipment in a health facility," she adds. For the moment (and this is rather good news), there is no psychological help for health professionals as in regions much more affected like the North but the coordinators of this cell there reflect. Everything will depend on the epidemic wave in New Aquitaine.

This kind of “15 bis” internal to health professionals in any case relieves the call center of Samu always in demand. The feedback is very positive on the ground. Moreover, in recent hours, the cell of the Bordeaux University Hospital has even received calls from Occitania or Languedoc-Roussillon.
