Industrialists in the chemical sector are organizing to soon produce 100,000 liters of hydroalcoholic gel per day, covering the needs of 100 hospitals to help them cope with the epidemic of coronavirus, their federation announced on Monday.

"Large groups, ETI (mid-size company) or SME, many companies have put in the capacity to produce soon a total of 100,000 liters per day, about the equivalent of the needs of 100 public hospitals with regional coverage", indicates France Chimie in a press release.

Constantly increasing demand

The federation observes that in the context of the Covid-19 health crisis, “the demand for hydro-alcoholic gel continues to increase, despite the considerable efforts of traditional suppliers. Not all needs are covered and the demand for health services is likely to increase further. "

The chemical manufacturers "have therefore mobilized to complete the supply of hydro-alcoholic gel production" by redirecting production lines, while the producers of all the materials used in the composition of the gel (isopropanol, thickener, hydrogen peroxide) increase their production.

Last week, the Arkema specialty chemicals group announced that it was reorienting a manufacturing line to produce 20 tonnes per week of hydroalcoholic solution for emergency and free distribution to French hospitals.
