  • In Italy, has a coronavirus patient been refused care by a nurse because of his skin color?
  • This is what the legend says of a viral video showing this man filming himself on a stretcher, while we hear a female voice in the background repeat "You must die".
  • The video is authentic but dates back to February 2019: it therefore has no link with the coronavirus epidemic that is hitting Italy.

"This video must go around the canvas: a black man sick from Covid-19 in Italy and a racist nurse tells him that he is going to die. Priority of care for whites! Intolerable, let us pray for his friends and denounce this despicable act at this very difficult time ”.

On Twitter, a video of around forty seconds, with more than 457,000 views and 15,000 retweets, claims to show this patient deliberately neglected by a nurse, in Italy.

Lying on a stretcher in a hospital corridor, the author of the video films himself explaining: "I am in the hospital, I am sick and there is a lady who tells me that I must die, that I must go to my country "while in the background, a woman's voice repeats many times:" You must die ".

But if the video is authentic, it was actually filmed in February 2019. Or a little more than a year before the coronavirus epidemic reached Italy and then France.

FAKE OFF

As the Neapolitan daily Il Mattino said at the time, the young man visible in these images, Souleymane Rachidi, from Côte d'Ivoire, filmed himself in a hospital in the province of Salerno where paramedics transported him. after he called for help for chest pain.

"Is that Italy?" A place where human life has no value, where you are told in the public hospital that you must return to your country, that you must die because you are black? After this [incident], I decided to stop taking care of myself and I left this hospital. I am proud of […] my skin color ”, he added in the legend of his Facebook post.

Faced with the uproar caused by this video, the hospital announced that it would investigate the circumstances of this event. The director of the establishment then announced that the words heard on the video were not addressed to Souleymane Rachidi but to another member of staff.
