In an article with the evocative title "The Cannes Festival will not take place", Le Point said this Saturday that the games were made: the 2020 edition of the largest film festival in the world would not take place ... even if the decision should officially be taken on April 15, for an official announcement the next day.

The magazine quotes an (anonymous) member of the board of directors: “It will be very difficult if not impossible to select films from China, Korea, Iran, Italy and probably around fifty country, knowing that the actors and directors will not be able to travel. Showing films in a 2,000-seat theater will not be authorized and the slightest alert will worry festival-goers. ”

The demonstration, which is to take place from May 12 to 23, is studying with attention and lucidity the evolution of the national and international situation in consultation with @villecannes and @LeCNC. They will take together, when the time comes, around mid-April, the necessary decision.

A decision in mid-April

The article also mentions a potential postponement, rather than a cancellation, when many festivals are already planned for the fall (Deauville, Venice, Toronto, New York…) Allegations that the Cannes Festival has swept aside tweet: "Despite some sensational titles there is nothing new about the festival." Before adding: “The demonstration which is to take place from 12 to 23 May is studying with attention and lucidity the evolution of the national and international situation in consultation with the City of Cannes and the CNC. They will take together, when the time comes, around mid-April, the necessary decision ”.

The situation has not changed since the declaration of President Pierre Lescure, who hoped for a peak in the epidemic at the end of March and a more breathable month of April: "But we are not oblivious," explains Pierre Lescure. If not, we will cancel ”.
