American actor Tom Hanks and his wife, who are quarantined in an Australian hospital after they were diagnosed with the emerging corona virus, called on Friday to follow the recommendations of specialists.

The couple confirmed in a message on social media that they "live this stage day by day." And thank you, "to all those who care about them in Australia."

"We were infected with Covid-19 virus and we are in quarantine, so we will not pass it on to anyone else," said the American star, who was in Australia in preparation for filming. He pointed out that the virus "may turn some people into a very serious disease", enclosing his message with a picture of him and his wife, and she seemed relieved.

"There are things that we can all do to get out of the crisis by following the experts' recommendations and caring for ourselves and others," he added.

Tom Hanks, 63, is the first Hollywood star to be declared infected with the emerging corona virus. It is quarantined at the Gold Coast University Hospital on the east coast of Australia.

The actor was visiting Australia in preparation for filming the movie "Baz Luhrmann", dedicated to Elvis Presley, in which he would take on the role of director of "Rock and Roll King" Tom Parker. Film production has been suspended.
