  • Founded in 2013, the Toulouse start-up Schoolmouv offers online courses for middle and high school students.
  • Faced with the coronavirus epidemic, it offers parents a subscription to its online content for a symbolic euro.
  • All subjects are covered in these online courses, as well as quizzes, methods or summaries to help students.

Since the closure of 150 schools linked to the coronavirus, the teams of the Toulouse start-up Schoolmouv, specialist in online tutoring, have not been idle. She announced this week that her video lessons will be online for free for the 300,000 students stranded at home.

But the announcement Thursday evening of the President of the Republic to close Monday all schools in France further accelerates the intention of the start-up to support the 16 million children deprived of school. From Friday afternoon, parents will be able to benefit from a subscription to one euro to follow the online courses offered by Schoolmouv, covering all subjects of middle and high school.

Subscription to a symbolic euro

"We weren't expecting a closure of all the schools but we will be able to support the millions of students who will not be able to attend classes," says Shannon Picardo, founder of Schoolmouv which was launched in 2013 in Toulouse. We had already set up this week a mailbox for parents wishing to access content on video, justifying a certificate of education, and we have received thousands of requests. ”

Almost two million students were already supported by the start-up, before the coronavirus health crisis. High school and college students can learn more about it through videos of 5 to 15 minute lessons, designed by more than 200 National Education teachers. Quizzes, methods, syntheses, interactive exercises or even an encyclopedia are also available to students.

A thousand videos online

If the Ministry of National Education favors Cned, the public distance education platform, the boss of Schoolmouv ensures that it has a role to play, as a digital start-up specialized in education, in this crisis which deprives school students.

"We have informed the ministry that we can support the students," says Shannon Picardo. Our platform is experienced and robust to continue operating even in the event of a connection explosion. ” Schoolmouv produces around 200 videos per year and offers nearly a thousand videos currently on its site.
