The Coachella music festival held every year in Indio, California , has added to the list of events affected by the coronavirus. The organizers of one of the most anticipated events of the year in the United States have decided to move it to October instead of canceling it, as was done on Monday with the Indian Wells tennis tournament, also organized in the Californian desert.

The new dates are from 9 to 11 and from October 16 to 18, Goldenvoice confirmed in a statement, an event initially planned for the month of April. The Stagecoach country festival will also move to the weekend of October 23.

"Following the guidelines of Riverside County and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the reprogramming of both Coachella and Stagecoach due to fears for Covid-19," they said in the statement.

They also announced that they will return the price of tickets that they cannot attend in October, with a sign headed by Race Against The Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean . It is not yet confirmed how many of the artists may be present at the event or if there will be substantial changes in the list of bands.

The festival in which Rosalia performed in 2019 transforms every year the town of Indio, a town of 89,000 inhabitants and a large community of retirees. Coachella mobilizes about 100,000 people a year and generates more than $ 100 million in revenue. He started in 1999 but decided not to do the following year due to economic problems. Since then it has been growing exponentially and interrupted. From being an appointment of indies groups in the desert, it has become a mass event where Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Radiohead, Guns & Roses or Drake have performed .
