Boomerang returns for Brigitte Bardot. The animal activist must indeed be referred to the criminal court of Saint-Denis, capital of Reunion, for racial insults. The public prosecutor, Eric Tuffery, confirms to 20 Minutes that he has just made requisitions in this sense in this case where the former cinema icon had once again illustrated himself, unfavorably.

Outraged reactions

A year ago, on March 18, 2019, Brigitte Bardot had sent a letter, described as "delusional" by the magistrate himself, to the prefect of Reunion on the subject of wandering and animal abuse in this department of Indian Ocean. In her missive, she attacked the inhabitants virulently: “The natives have kept their genes [sic] of savages. "She evoked pell-mell" reminiscences of cannibalism of past centuries "," a degenerate population still steeped in ancestral customs, barbaric traditions which are their roots ".

The reaction of the Reunionese, defenders of the animal cause, parliamentarians or ordinary citizens had been as violent as the attack which was addressed to them. The prefect and, in particular, associations such as SOS Racisme had filed complaints in the process.

Up to a year in prison

Judicial information had been opened, then Brigitte Bardot and an employee of her foundation, responsible for the dissemination of the abusive mail, were indicted in September. The trial is expected to be held in July, according to La1ere.

For the offense of racial insults, the 85-year-old activist faces a year in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros. She has already been sentenced for inciting racial hatred.
