Emmanuel Macron launched Sunday, on International Women's Day, a mobilization call for the Generation Equality Forum, a UN convention on gender equality to be held from July 7 to 10 in Paris. "I give you an appointment on July 7 in Paris, to demonstrate (...) that we will not back down, that we will get results all together, because we are the generation of equality", launched the head of the 'State in a video on the Internet, adding "this fight, I will lead it to the end".

UN-Women has decided to organize this Generation Equality Forum to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the “Beijing Action Program”, the benchmark text for global actions in favor of girls and women, adopted at the Beijing World Conference in 1995. In response to the call from UN-Women, France volunteered to organize this summit, which will bring together thousands of participants, including heads of state, representatives of businesses and associations, as well as committed personalities, like the “One Planet Summit” for ecology, said the Elysée.

"Insufficient progress"

"Progress has been made but it is largely insufficient" and is "sometimes today, including in Europe, including in the most advanced democracies, largely questioned," said Emmanuel Macron. “These inequalities remain everywhere. We know the enemies, you see the face of them every day: obscurantism, denial, silence, habit, the sum of all compromises. But things can change if we decide to, so let's decide! ", he asks.

The President of the Republic has made gender equality the “great cause of the quinquennium” which he also wishes to promote at the international level. He had already included this theme among the priorities of the G7 in Biarritz. The Generation Equality Forum in July will be organized around several major themes such as the fight against gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive rights and the right to dispose of one's body, as well as feminist actions for climate justice.

Emmanuel Macron also wants to focus on the education of young girls, a theme he has regularly defended, especially during his trips to Africa, said the Elysee.
