Fallen producer Harvey Weinstein - Alcir N. da Silva / Polaris / Starface

Harvey Weinstein is now awaiting his sentence behind bars. The producer, convicted of rape and sexual assault on February 24, was transferred to Rikers Island prison yesterday, according to the New York Times.

The former boss of Miramax was imprisoned in the wing reserved for prisoners in need of special protection, such as "celebrities, victims of rape and, in some cases, transgender people" or even former police, the publication said. No problem of prison overcrowding in this wing, which includes "10 cells per block, against 30 cells per block" in the rest of the prison. In addition, Harvey Weinstein called on a special adviser to prepare him for his new life in prison.

Heart operated

Before being transferred, Harvey Weinstein had been admitted to Bellevue Hospital. The 67-year-old man, who appeared weak at trial, traveling with a walker, suffered from heart palpitations and high blood pressure on his way to Rikers Island after being convicted. He has since had heart surgery. Doctors placed a stent on him on Wednesday, a procedure that lasted two hours.

Harvey Weinstein, who faces up to 29 years in prison in Manhattan, will be sentenced on March 11. Then comes another trial, this time in Los Angeles. Several charges for rape and sexual assault were brought against him by the prosecutor of the city of angels. In this other case, he faces up to 28 years in prison.
