The exploit did not take place, this March 6, 2020 in Radès, in the quarter-final return of the Champions League (C1). Esperance Tunis was too weak against Zamalek. The African champions were deprived of their coach (Mouine Chaabani), their assistant coach (Mejdi Traoui) and three players (Abdelraouf Benguit, Khalil Chamam and Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane), suspended after a rough first leg .

A quick score opening

A 1-3 defeat that the Esperantists almost erased this Friday evening. They opened the scoring in the 5th minute, thanks to a penalty kick forcefully by Billel Bensaha. But the Tunisians never managed to register this second goal which would have allowed them to eliminate the Egyptian club, and this despite a big opportunity from number 10 Hamdou Elhouni. Because at 2-0, the defending champions qualified for the C1 semi-finals.

The atmosphere was electric on the lawn and the players in the meeting gathered in the middle of the field, at the end of the game, to avoid possible overlays and other projectile jets.
