Twenty-five thousand spectators from around the world were expected in the Alps. But the Tomorrowland Winter will ultimately not take place. The electronic music festival, the second edition of which was to be held from March 14 to 21 at Alpe d'Huez, in Isère, was canceled due to the coronavirus.

"It is with a heavy heart that we were informed by the French government of the decision to cancel this second edition," indicated on Thursday the organizers of this event which provided for the arrival of DJs of international renown.

This cancellation comes as part of the measures taken by the French authorities to limit the spread of the virus on the territory, starting with the ban on gatherings of more than 5,000 people in confined spaces.

In Lyon, several major events or cultural events have already been canceled or postponed. The Lyon Fair, scheduled from March 20 to 30, should finally take place at Eurexpo from May 16 to 24. Gims, who was scheduled to perform at Halle Tony Garnier on March 10, postponed his visit to Lyon to July 1.

"L'Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine Ski and its resorts remain open to visitors and all the usual activities take place normally, as in any French ski resort," Tomorrowland Winter organizers said in a statement on Thursday. . The spectators, who had bought their pass or ticket, will be contacted personally by email and via their Tomorrowland account "in order to define the next steps", they underline.
