James Lipton, who died on Monday, had exported Bernard Pivot's questionnaire (which he credited each time) across the Atlantic in Apostrophe and Bouillon de culture , inspired by that of Proust, in his program Inside the Actors Studio, or L'Actors studio as Paris Première once broadcast. The stars, who had almost all confided in his talk show, paid him unanimous tribute on social networks.

"Rest in peace, James Lipton. He was interested in the actors' creative process, which was so refreshing, ”shared Barbra Streisand on Twitter.

RIP James Lipton. I studied so many episodes of Inside the Actors Studio over the years. He was a wonderful interviewer and loved doing his show so much. The Gene Wilder episode was a so special. He had a great sense of humor and loved Will Ferrell's impression of him. I would see him at events over the years and he had such a joyous presence. He will he missed.

A cult program

Inside the Actors Studio lasted 23 seasons, during which the greatest of the cinema were in the grill, always their work, never on their private life. From Steven Spielberg to Glenn Close via Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep, they all lifted the veil on their working methods in front of a class of students from the Actors Studio Drama School, which James Lipton had founded in the 1990s with the Actors Studio and the New School. Theater students were also encouraged to ask questions of the guests.

In France, L'Actors Studio was broadcast on Paris Première from 1999 to 2009.
