  • Five cases of coronavirus are confirmed for the moment in the region.
  • Three new people were diagnosed in Haute-Savoie around patient 14, a man infected during a trip to Italy.
  • A man has been in intensive care since Thursday in Lyon, without the origin of his infection being known for the time being.

"We are not in an epidemic situation in our region," recalled this Friday morning Serge Morais, deputy director general of ARS Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. A message intended once again to reassure after the appearance of new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the region. 20 Minutes explains what we know about the situation.

A patient in intensive care in Lyon

This man in his fifties was hospitalized in intensive care Thursday at the Croix-Rousse hospital after a rapid visit to the emergency room of Saint-Luc-Saint-Joseph. Tests performed on him confirmed contamination with the coronavirus. This patient, who lives in Francheville, near Lyon, declared his first symptoms in mid-February. He saw a general practitioner and his health improved. But it abruptly deteriorated Thursday with the appearance of a respiratory distress syndrome. "His condition is stable," said Serge Morais, unable on Friday morning to say how this patient was infected.

To find out more, the patient's wife was questioned, as her husband was unable to be. The authorities are trying to trace the people in his immediate circle with whom he has been in contact since mid-February and the displacements he has made. Information which should be supplemented in the course of the day with that which must still be collected in his company of five employees. This investigation, which must be “rapid and relevant”, according to the ARS, as in each confirmed case of Covid-19, must make it possible to identify the origin of the contamination and to identify other contact cases which could have be infected with the patient. In the present case, a list of around twenty contacts from his family circle or close friends has already been drawn up since Thursday evening.

Three new cases in Haute-Savoie

The ARS confirmed the contamination of three people at La Balme de Sillingy, in Haute-Savoie, linked to “patient 14” diagnosed positive for coronavirus this week. This man in his sixties, who is doing well according to the authorities, was most likely infected during a stay in Lombardy (Italy), where he regularly travels as part of business trips. As soon as the diagnosis was established, he provided a list of some sixty people with whom he had been in close contact in recent times. Pharyngeal oral samples confirmed three new cases. "This is a cluster , that is to say that these three new cases are linked to this patient 14. It was an expected phenomenon and already known recently in Contamines-Monjoie, in Haute-Savoie", clarified Serger Morais. Are therefore concerned: the patient's spouse, his daughter aged around thirty and one of his close friends aged around sixty.

These patients, also hospitalized in Annecy, are doing well, according to the authorities, and have not reported any symptoms. Investigations will be conducted with those around them to determine if other people may have been contaminated in turn. This Friday morning, the mayor of La Balme reported two other cases related to this cluster . Information from the Dauphiné not confirmed for the time being by the ARS which sticks to the assessment made at 7 p.m. Thursday by the Ministry of Health.

Our file on the coronavirus

Two closed micro-cribs

Patient 14's daughter, who was infected, works in two micro-crèches in Haute-Savoie, each welcoming ten children. As a precaution, these two establishments were closed and the families of the children concerned were alerted. Samples should also be taken from these children and their entourage.

Reinforced resources in hospitals to cope

Auvergne Rhône-Alpes has six referral establishments intended to receive infected patients, in Lyon, Grenoble, Saint-Etienne, Chambéry and Clermont-Ferrand. They have 40 to 50 dedicated beds, recalls the ARS. Nine other second line hospitals are also mobilized in case the number of cases increases more massively. As of this weekend, the six establishments on the first line will be able to take pharyngeal oral samples, which until then had been taken to the reference center based in Lyon and overloaded. "Four hundred samples can be taken there this weekend," says Serge Morais, recalling that in case of symptoms or doubts about possible contamination, you should not go to the emergency room or the doctor but call 115 , responsible for guiding patients.
