Xinhua News Agency reporter Tan Yuanbin

At 1700 hours on the 28th, Tian Jiajia, an inspection technician at the secondary biosafety laboratory of Enshi Zhoumin University of Hubei, and his colleague Guo Yuanli finished the last sample and started a series of fine preparations before work.

They picked up a watering can and disinfected 12 samples made on the day. These samples were then covered with two yellow garbage bags. Then, pick up the watering can and disinfect the console and the floor with alcohol. Finally, turn on the UV lamp, carry the yellow garbage bag, leave the specimen processing area, and come to the buffer zone.

In the buffer zone, the two men took off their outer gloves, replaced them with clean gloves, and took off their isolation clothing, shoe covers, and protective clothing in order. Then, take off the outer gloves again and take off the mask, goggles, hat, and mask in order.

They then packed the removed protective equipment in two yellow garbage bags and sent them to a disinfection area for high-pressure inactivation. Finally, came to the dressing room, took off the surgical gown, and washed hands. The whole process takes about half an hour.

"It's finally time to go home!" Tian Jiajia relieved.

Tian Jiajia, 24, has been an inspection technician for more than two years. After graduating from Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2017, she returned to her hometown and joined Enshi Zhoumin University Hospital as a laboratory technician.

On the 28th, Tian Jiajia started the 19th day of the new coronavirus nucleic acid test. In these 19 days, she has to enter the laboratory almost every day, and has accumulated more than 350 samples.

"At first, there was a lot of stress. One day I did four or five positives, and I was very worried. Now there are fewer positives and the pressure is less." She said.

On February 6, Tian Jiajia received the task of detecting a new type of coronavirus nucleic acid. Before, she had never been tested for such an infectious virus, and a rush of fear came to her mind. However, calm down, she felt that as an inspection technician, she must stand up at the critical moment. So, despite her fear, she chose to move forward bravely.

That night, Tian Jiajia told her parents that she was going to do a new coronavirus nucleic acid test. From the eyes of her parents, she saw great worry. "It's okay to protect yourself!" She smiled and consoled. "Then you must protect yourself, don't take care!" Parents repeatedly urged.

On February 10, Tian Jiajia officially began to perform the task. After entering the laboratory full of thick disinfectant water, I waited for three or four hours. With high-intensity operation, sweat soaked her clothes, her glasses were covered with fog beads, and her vision was blurred. Sometimes she had to tilt her head to observe the operation through the gap in the goggles. The closed protective equipment and the closed experimental environment made her feel difficult to breathe.

"Nevertheless, I know I must be cautious. Every sample is a life, and every operation is a life saver. We also need to prevent the generation of aerosols, prevent pollution to the laboratory, protect colleagues, and protect ourselves. Tian Jiajia said.

Complete the inspection task every day, take off the mask and goggles, leaving deep marks on the face, and the back of the ears and nose are also red. After a day of work, we returned home exhausted, and it was dark. Upon entering the house, the whole body was disinfected, and the bath was changed. In order to avoid passing the infection to her parents, she quarantined them by herself and hid behind meals.

"Every time a positive specimen is detected, I'm a little nervous, but I know I can't flinch. On the new day, continue to fight and look forward to the day of victory!" She said.
