A recent scientific study said that women who drink only two cups of milk per day may increase their risk of developing breast cancer by 80 percent.

According to the British newspaper "Daily Mail", researchers from Loma Linda University in California conducted their studies on about 53 thousand women over a period of 8 years.

The researchers asked women every day to fill out questionnaires about the foods and medicines they had consumed during the day, and also answered questions about their families ’history of breast cancer.

The study found that daily milk consumption, even if in small quantities, is associated with a high prevalence of breast cancer.

The researchers pointed out that eating a third of a cup of milk (80 ml) can increase the risk of developing breast cancer by 30 percent, while eating a full glass per day (240 ml) increases the risk of infection by 50 percent.

The researchers added that this percentage rises to between 70 and 80 percent for women who drink two to three cups a day.

While this study relied on observation completely, the researchers were unable to find out the sure cause of milk in breast cancer, but they indicated that this reason may be due to a hormone present in cow's milk.

"Dairy products, especially milk, are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer in women, according to our study," said lead author Gary Fraser, professor of cardiology and nutrition at Loma Linda.

He added: "Our results also expected this risk to decrease if cow's milk is replaced by soy milk, oats or almonds."

It is noteworthy that breast cancer is the most common cancer for women in the world, where the World Health Organization estimates more than two million women annually, and the death of nearly 15 per cent, due to it, from the total deaths of various types of cancer in the world.
