Why this book?
- Because Aurora Squad is the brilliant first volume of an intergalactic space opera co-written by the authors of the highly acclaimed Illuminae series. Diving into this new series means opening your mind to discover a young-adult SF novel that keeps the codes of the genre while bringing a breath of fresh air with it. The reader meets here seven young hotheads forming the 312 squadron. Only against all, these rebellious, sarcastic and talented young people will have to keep the faith and team up to fight against an enemy whose motivations they do not understand.
- Because the narration is done from the point of view of the seven characters. If it may seem impressive at first, the reader gets used to it quickly as they are different and all have real peculiarities. What do they have in common? The essential in 2 minutes
The plot. Tyler rescues Auri, a cryogenic human drifting in a ship lost for 200 years. With a squadron made up of hotheads that no one wants, he will have to help the girl to flee those who are chasing her. But why do those whom he believed to be good attack his team?
Characters. A human awakened from cryogenization after 200 years, an Alpha charmer and self-assured, a negotiator with undeniable charms, an ace of piloting with a strong character, a Traskian mechanic with a black belt of sarcasm, a slightly sociopathic scientist and a mysterious Syldrathi rage.
Places. Somewhere in space.
The time. The story takes place in 2380.
The author. After the success of the lluminae files, the two Australian authors Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff join again to offer us Aurora Squad . They both received an Aurealis award (for the best fantasy short story for him and the best young adult novel for her) in 2013.
