The National Institute of Performing and Musical Arts (INAEM) of the Ministry of Culture has announced the cancellation of Plácido Domingo's participation in the 'Luisa Fernanda' functions scheduled for May 14 and 15 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
The announcement is a consequence of "the statements of Plácido Domingo in which he assumes the 'full responsibility for his actions' ", after accusations of sexual harassment in the United States, according to a statement sent by the INAEM. The text explains that the cancellation occurs "in solidarity with the affected women and realizing that responsibility recognized by the artist".
Domingo's participation in the Zarzuela came in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of his debut on that stage. It was planned that Domingo would sing the role of Vidal Hernando in the play, while one day later he would occupy the pit to direct the zarzuela of Moreno Torroba.
