Singer Duffy informs her followers on Instagram on Tuesday evening that she has been detained, raped and drugged for days. It is the first time in three years that the singer has placed something on her account and with this message she wants to explain that silence.
"Many of you wonder what happened to me, where I was and why," Duffy begins her message. "The truth is that I was imprisoned for a few days, drugged and raped."
Furthermore, the Welsh singer, whose full name is Aimee Anne Duffy, says that it took a long time for her to recover and that she opened herself up to a journalist last summer. The interview about what happened to her in the coming weeks will be published soon, she says.
"You wonder why I didn't choose to use my voice to express my pain? I didn't want to show the world the sadness in my eyes," she says in the post. "I was wondering, how can I sing from the heart when it's broken?"
She also thanks her fans for their support over the years and asks for privacy for her family.
The singer broke through in 2008 with the single Mercy, from her debut album Rockferry. The album became platinum and sold millions of copies worldwide.
