This Wednesday, producer Margaret Menegoz was appointed president of the Association for the Promotion of Cinema which organizes the Césars. She will act in the interim pending an extraordinary general meeting to be held on April 20, announced Wednesday the National Cinema Center (CNC).

President of UniFrance from 2003 to 2009 and member of the National Film Commission, Margaret Menegoz directs Films du Losange, which has produced numerous films by Jean-Claude Brisseau, Michael Haneke, Eric Rohmer, and Andrzej Wajda, among others.

Accused of opacity and self-esteem, the management of the Académie des César, which had been chaired since 2003 by producer Alain Terzian, had resigned collectively in mid-February.

"A broad consultation" promised

“The members of the association will meet in an extraordinary general meeting on April 20, 2020, at the CNC, in order to adopt new statutes and provisionally replace the resigning members of the board of directors, pending the establishment of 'final governance', informs the CNC in a press release.

The general assembly will be responsible for drawing up new statutes "within the framework of a broad consultation with all the cinema professions", with in particular the enlargement of the number of members of the association and the diversification of their recruitment. .

"Modernization plan"

“A second general meeting, this time including the new members who have joined the association under the renovated statutes, will be convened in the summer. It will proceed to the election of a board of directors, the composition of which must comply with the principles of representativeness, diversity and equality, guaranteed by the new statutes ”, specifies the CNC.

"This modernization plan will allow the César ceremony and other operations organized by the Academy to continue to play their exceptional role in promoting French cinematographic creation," says Dominique Boutonnat, president of the CNC.

The next Cesar ceremony will be held Friday evening, Salle Pleyel in Paris. It will be broadcast live on Canal +.
