Hokkaido School Board requests temporary closure of all elementary and junior high schools in Hokkaido due to spread of infection 13:07 on February 26

In response to the spread of the new coronavirus to schools, the Hokkaido Board of Education has announced a request to the municipality's Board of Education to temporarily close all elementary and junior high schools in Hokkaido for a certain period from the 26th.

In Hokkaido, the spread of the new coronavirus is spreading to schools, such as children, teachers, and caterers for lunch.

Under these circumstances, the Road Council Education Committee on May 26 announced that the Road Board of Education decided to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection by expanding all 1600 elementary schools and junior high schools in Hokkaido, including private schools, from 27th. He clarified the idea of requesting the municipal board of education to temporarily close schools for a certain period of time.

The Road Board of Education decides to make a request within 26 days, and the decision of whether to actually close the school will be made by the Board of Education of each municipality.

On the other hand, high schools do not require school closures because they can take preventive measures on their own compared to elementary and junior high schools.

In Hokkaido, Governor Suzuki on Tuesday called on the Hokkaido Board of Education to consider closing the school to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection and reduce anxiety.

"In response to the request from the governor, we will request the school boards of each municipality to close all elementary and junior high schools in Hokkaido in order to respond to the request from the governor."
