Rapper Kendrick Lamar - Lawrence / Starface

The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar will have to explain their influences to compose their title Pray For Me , released in 2018. The song of the two rappers appeared on the soundtrack of the film Black Panther . The New York group Yeasayer accuses them of having plagiarized their 2007 song, Sunrise .

According to the legal documents consulted by TMZ and Pitchfork, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd would have used "a characteristic choral performance" present on the single Sunrise . The part concerned is made up of "male voices singing as high as possible, with an animated vibrato, with an impulse".

Nothing to report

The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar have yet to respond to the complaint against them. The labels UMG Recording, Interscope Records and Aftermath Records are also on the dock, as is producer Doc McKinney and one of the co-authors of the title, Adam King Finney. Pray For Me had won a gold record in France and was certified double platinum in the United States.

The members of Yeasayer, who disbanded their group last year, are claiming part of the profits generated by Pray For Me , as well as damages.
