When he announced, at a press conference on January 29, the list of works and artists appointed to the next Caesar, Alain Terzian would probably not have imagined that he would no longer be president of the Académie des César less than a months later. However, he had held this position since 2003.

On February 13, he and the rest of the board of directors presented his resignation from the Academy. The organization was accused by many professionals in the cinema world of opacity and of themselves. A platform with more than 400 signatories including Omar Sy, Jacques Audiard or Céline Sciamma, called for "in-depth reform".

The person responsible for acting in replacement of Alain Terzian will be appointed on Wednesday, announced Monday evening Dominique Boutonna, at the head of the National Cinema Center (CNC).

"New impetus"

"On Wednesday, there will be a first board of directors, to first appoint a new president during this transitional period, but also to convene an extraordinary general meeting, at the latest in six weeks, which will have to adopt a first reform of the statutes, therefore the enlargement of its members ”, he indicated.

"I am confident in our ability to give new impetus to the Académie des César by next summer," assured Dominique Boutonnat during a speech at the dinner of the producers of the César.

"We will work together, throughout March, so that the Academy is like cinema and society today," he promised. And to quote “four guiding principles” for this work: “a democratic principle”, “transparency”, the idea of “strengthening parity and diversity, both in the bodies but also in the process of selecting members ", And the fact of" limiting in time the terms of its leaders ".
