The Department of Health of the Generalitat reports on the first case of coronavirus in Catalonia.

This is the first case in the peninsula and the fourth in Spain, after the three cases of the Canary Islands. Two of them are already cured, while the third has been detected in a doctor who was on vacation in Tenerife.

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has activated the protocol after knowing that the tests performed confirming the first positive. During this Tuesday, a second test will be carried out at the National Center for Microbiology of the Carlos III Health Institute.

Meanwhile, at dawn, the authorities have proceeded to put under quarantine more than a thousand tourists staying at the H10 Costa Adeje hotel, where the Italian doctor had been staying with his wife for a week, reports Diario de Avisos. Tourists remain in quarantine in police custody awaiting test results.

At this time, following the protocol, the infected patient is admitted to the hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. Two relatives of the tourist have also remained under observation in the same health center, but have been negative in the coronavirus tests, reports Efe.

According to sources from the Ministry, the Italian doctor volunteered at a health center on the island and asked for tests because he suspected he could be affected. As he indicated to the health personnel in the questionnaire that was done, he did not believe he had been infected because he had been in direct contact with a coronavirus patient.
