Chad: the challenge of childbirth in the Kanem region

In the Kanem region, located north of Ndjamena, in the middle of the Chadian desert, the indicators concerning maternal and child health are alarming. 980 out of 100,000 women die during childbirth and more than 10% of babies do not reach their first birthday.

Lack of hospitals and qualified personnel, early marriages or malnutrition and respiratory diseases: the reasons for these deaths are multiple, according to the humanitarian workers.
