Birth of a giraffe's baby for the first time in 37 years Tokyo Ueno Zoo February 23, 11:51

A giraffe baby was born at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo for the first time in 37 years. The zoo will decide when to open it to the public while monitoring the baby's growth.

At Ueno Zoo, a female baby giraffe was born on the 2nd of this month.

Giraffe babies are 1 meter 64 cm tall and weigh 41.3 kg, and depending on the zoo, they weigh about 20 kg lighter than standard babies, but they drink milk given by their keeper. It means that you are walking fine.

The baby was born between a 9-year-old male and a 4-year-old female, and giraffe breeding at Ueno Zoo is 37 years old.

"It was good to have a safe baby and mother and baby. We want to keep the baby giraffes growing up smoothly," said Yutaka Fukuda, director of Ueno Zoo.

Ueno Zoo will consider the time of public release while monitoring the baby's growth status.
