Revised in depth over the past two years, technical control should not change in 2020. - CCO - City-presse

While the technical control has been tightened twice, in May 2018 and in July 2019, more and more French people are skipping this exam. A little less than 740,000 vehicles would not have been subjected to it in 2019, reports La Voix du Nord, which uses data communicated by the Central Technical Body (OTC).

This represents a drop of almost 4% in the number of checks. "These figures confirm the worrying situation of the technical inspection market in 2019. This means that many potentially dangerous and / or polluting vehicles do not pass or no longer pass their technical inspection", indicates the National Committee of Professional Automobile ( NFPC) in a press release.

Soon a "dissuasive sanction"?

Many owners fear expensive repairs or immobilization of their vehicle. They therefore prefer to refrain from passing technical control. However, the latter has been compulsory since 1992 and must be carried out before the fourth year of the vehicle's life, then every two years.

In the absence of technical control, its owner is then exposed to a fixed fine of 135 euros as well as potential immobilization thereof. Faced with the increase in these irregularities, specialists recommend the introduction of an increase in the fine so that it becomes a real "dissuasive sanction".
