  • Two police officers assigned to the Colomiers police station near Toulouse were imprisoned after being charged with corruption.
  • They are suspected of having extracted money from a speeding sushi delivery boy.
  • A judicial investigation was opened to determine in particular whether it was a misstep or a habit.

The two Toulouse police officers were taken straight to the remand center Monday evening, after being indicted for corruption. Dominique Alzeari, the public prosecutor of Toulouse, gives this Tuesday more details on "the facts of a particular gravity" which led to the arrest on Saturday of a peacekeeper and a brigadier assigned to the police station from Colomiers.

At the origin of the affair, a sushi deliveryman who presented with his boss to the police station on the night of Friday 14 to Saturday 15 February to file a complaint. The man indicates that he was caught speeding and that two of the police officers present on the control device had offered to give them a sum of money - "several hundred euros", specifies the magistrate - in consideration for the absence of verbalization.

Audio recording of blackmail

And to substantiate his claims, the delivery man produced to the investigators "an audio recording of the exchanges which led to this illicit remittance of funds".

Placed separately in police custody, the police "admitted" the facts and shared the money from "this pact of corruption".

Harm "to the whole of the corporation"

The case was entrusted to an investigating judge who will continue the investigation but also, adds the public prosecutor, having to "determine the exact extent of these errors which could prove to be repeated".

A heavy blow for the police. "This regrettable and unfortunate affair will harm the whole corporation," laments Didier Martinez, regional secretary of the SGP-Police Unit union in Occitania, who does not want to comment on the substance of this "extremely rare" dossier. "This falls under already difficult circumstances for the police and will make the work of colleagues on the ground even more delicate by bringing water to the mill of those who stigmatize them."
