Addicted to dating apps were waiting impatiently, but lo, it will not be for today: the release of Facebook Dating has been postponed, announced the social network. The reason ? A control of the Data Protection Commission (DPC), the Irish gendarme of personal data, Monday at the premises of the European headquarters in Dublin, under the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The DPC affirms, in a press release spotted by Le Monde, to have carried out this inspection to quickly obtain documents which Facebook had not provided a week earlier, at the time when the company informed the entity of control that 'she was going to launch her dating app.

"We are taking a little longer to make sure the product is ready for the European market," said a Facebook spokesperson.

Tinder takes the lion's share

Gradually launched in 2019 on the American continent and in Southeast Asia, a new feature of the social network - Facebook dating in English, Facebook Rencontres in French - is already "among the first online dating services", welcomed Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said in late January that he expected it to "continue to grow."

With $ 1.2 billion in revenue in 2019, Tinder is carving out the lion's share of the mobile dating market, estimated at $ 2.2 billion.
