Scientists are unanimous: it is urgent to reduce our carbon footprint. For this, it is still necessary to be able to measure the ecological impact of our everyday actions. It is from this observation that Alexis Normand and Matthieu Vegreville created Greenly, the first mobile application that measures the carbon footprint of our expenses, reports Les Echos .

A plane ticket to London, new jeans, a basket of seasonal vegetables ... For each expense, Greenly indicates the number of kilos of CO2 emitted or saved. Concretely, the application analyzes your banking transactions to assess the carbon impact of your daily purchases.

According to its founders, Greenly offers a level of security and confidentiality similar to that of other popular banking applications, such as Lydia or Bankin. "When you link your bank account to Greenly, you are actually connecting to the Linxo service, approved by the Banque de France, which secures the accounts of three million people," underlines Alexis Normand .

A reward system for "good" purchases

Ultimately, consumers will be encouraged to favor green brands thanks to an advantageous reward system. For each virtuous purchase in carbon terms, it will benefit from financial advantages in the form of cash-back to spend on “green” brands, such as Vinted and Biocoop.

"What we want is to counteract the feeling of guilt among consumers, and to value the small actions likely to be repeated rather than the heroic weapon facts that cannot be achieved," summarizes Alexis Normand in the columns of the DNA . The Greenly app has been available for free since January 27 on iOS.
