The CGT Marins, which was on strike against the pension reform, voted Friday in Marseille to resume work, which marks the release of the ships of La Méridionale and the Corsica Linea immobilized for twenty-one days. "Yesterday we voted to resume work, having obtained all the guarantees we asked for," said Frédéric Alpozzo, employee at Corsica Linea and CGT general secretary of sailors in Marseille.

The CGT obtained commitments from the government to maintain a derogatory pension scheme for seafarers. In a letter and co-signed by the Secretary of State for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, and the Secretary of State for Pensions, Laurent Pietraszewski, the government undertakes that "seafarers with a higher career to fifteen years ”may“ benefit from an age of entitlement to 55 years if they have completed a cumulative period of fifteen years of navigation ”.

"A gradual return to normal traffic"

Corsica Linea confirmed Friday evening "a gradual return to normal traffic" with still some disturbances on the crossings to Corsica and Algeria. An Ajaccio-Marseille crossing scheduled for Friday was thus canceled and the passengers were reclassified on a Bastia-Marseille crossing. A Marseille-Ajaccio crossing is also delayed on Saturday. Crossings departing and arriving from Ile Rousse are canceled on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, passengers being reclassified on crossings to and from Bastia.

On the lines to Algeria, the Marseille-Algiers on Tuesday and Algiers-Marseille on Wednesday are canceled and passengers are directed to the Sunday and Monday crossings.

More than 33 million euros in losses according to the CCI of Corsica

Wednesday, the STC and CFTC strikers of La Méridionale, who had blocked since January 10 two of their boats and three of the Corsica Linea in the port of Marseille, had voted to resume work after having obtained their main claim that a agreement between their company and Corsica Linea is found to present a joint offer to the public market of the service of the five Corsican ports from Marseille which must be awarded this summer for seven years.

These conflicts at the port of Marseille and within La Méridionale cost "33.6 million euros in loss for the Corsican economy", according to an estimate by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Corsica made public Friday.
