The Crown debuted on Netflix on November 4, 2016 and has since been one of the most praised series on the platform, both critically and by the public. Morgan's original idea was to go through the life of the Queen of England over six seasons , renewing the cast every two installments to make up for the passing of the years. However, and according to the creator himself told Variety , "now that we have begun to work on the stories of the fifth season, it has become clear to me that it is the time and the perfect place to stop."

British producer Left Bank Pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television, produces The Crown for Netflix. After premiering the third installment on November 17, they are currently working on the fourth season, which will introduce Princess Diana of Wales , played by actress Emma Corrin, and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher , played by Gillian Anderson.

Olivia Colman, winner of the Oscar for her work in The Favorite , took over in the third season, which takes place between 1964 and 1977, and will continue in the fourth, which will arrive in the early 1990s.

At the end of November it began to be rumored that Imelda Staunton could incarnate the monarch in the next period of The Crown , that is, at the beginning of the decade of the year 2000, but Netflix denied this information, now confirmed. The filmography of the actress includes titles such as The Secret of Vera Drake and Pride .
