Edouard Philippe is "hopeful" to find a "compromise" on the financing of the pension system, he assured Thursday after a conference on the subject with the social partners. Unions and employers are once again invited to Matignon "the week of February 10".

“I want to once again salute the sense of responsibility of the social partners and say that I have confidence in the capacity that we have collectively, by working, listening to each other, perhaps evolving, each from the positions that are the ours to find a compromise, "said the Prime Minister after a meeting at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (Cese). Edouard Philippe and representatives of labor and management organizations met on Thursday for the installation of the financing conference promised by the executive.

"Good Hope" and "Double Mission"

Its mission, placed under the aegis of a former director of Agirc-Arrco (the complementary fund for private sector employees) Jean-Jacques Marette, will be twofold, said Edouard Philippe. First, "propose measures that will allow the current system, as it works, to return to equilibrium by 2027". If the partners "agreed" on this point, "the government would endorse these proposals," said the Prime Minister, repeating that he had "good hopes" that this would happen.

The second task of the conference will be to "formulate recommendations on the financial management" of the future universal system, further detailed the Prime Minister. The conference should "end at the end of April", so that "the results can be integrated into the bill" which will be discussed at the same time in Parliament.

In the meantime, the head of government announced that he had invited "the week of February 10" the social partners for a multilateral meeting in Matignon to discuss the subjects of "arduousness", "gradual departure", "transitions" and "small guaranteed pensions ”as part of the pension reform. It is a question of "taking stock, if necessary, concluding, so that, in the National Assembly, from the public session (February 17) any elements of conclusions or in any case the elements of can be taken into account, "he said.
