In One is never better cared for than by oneself * (ed. Plon), in bookstores this Thursday, Dr. Frédéric Saldmann, cardiologist, nutritionist and cantor of good living, delivers 1,001 easy-to-apply tips for living happily and long good health (and sexually fulfilled too).

Over the pages, he answers all the questions that everyone can ask themselves without daring to ask. Do you really have to walk 10,000 steps a day to be healthy? Is it dangerous to scratch your nose? Can you manage to lose weight without ever losing it? 20 Minutes reveals some secrets of this bedside book good for body and mind.

Do you really have to walk 10,000 steps a day?

"The regular practice of a sport reduces the risks of cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases by 40%", recalls the cardiologist in the preamble. By walking 10,000 steps, is the account good? This round figure is only a marketing argument, corroborated by any scientific study to date. "Researchers have worked seriously on the issue and precisely calculated the walking / health relationship," says Dr. Saldmann in his book. And from 4,400 steps, the beneficial effects on health would already be there, with mortality falling "up to 40%".

To optimize the effect of this walk of at least twenty minutes, the doctor prescribed "to insert three times a minute of more sustained effort", for example by significantly increasing his pace. An exercise which influences "very positively on the cardio-respiratory capacities and the insulin sensitivity", thus keeping type 2 diabetes at bay. If you're not hooked up walking, taking a bracing dip or riding a bike also works.

Is it dangerous to clean your nose?

It is a passion shared by both toddlers and adults: to get off the nose! Comfortable in short pants, between a nap and a snack, or quiet driving, especially when the light turns red and gives drivers time to go on a nasal exploration (yes, we see you). And this exercise would have several causes. In his book, Dr. Saldmann compares the fact of cleaning the nose to a small individual coitus, which gives those who engage in it - and more men than women do it - a pleasure, a feeling of welfare.

"I can't help but think of the image of the finger penetrating a hot and humid cavity, a kind of symbolic coitus quickly done well," he comments. In addition to unclogging the nasal passages, this allows for more comfortable breathing. But getting rid of your nose is not easy, and can be (relatively) dangerous! To start, you must have clean hands and not have too long nails, so as not to risk sticking microbes - such as golden staphylococcus, vectors of disease - or injuring yourself. Finally, and this is for both children and adults, we do not eat the fruit of his hunt!

Can you lose weight permanently, even while eating chocolate cake?

To lose weight, it is well known, we often hear that we must eat less, and that we must eat better. Exit the pizzas, fries, cakes and sodas consumed in excess. Long live the broccoli, fish and farandoles of steamed vegetables. All in small portions, without bread or butter. If the reduction in the caloric bill is quickly felt on the scale, frustration, it escalates. And with it the risk of cracking, via packet of crisps or chocolate bar.

The key to long-lasting slimming without any yoyo effect would therefore be to give yourself some well-balanced pleasures, so as not to get frustrated and activate the neural circuits of the reward, which bring well-being and feeling of satiety more quickly. And if you are addicted to chocolate cake, you can buy it and lose weight anyway. But on a few conditions: by tasting a small portion "as a starter" and "with a fork", recommends Dr. Saldmann.

Should you sleep without panties to have good female intimate health?

When bedtime comes, each woman has her favorite outfit: pilou pajamas for some, nightie for others, and a few drops of delicate perfume for Marilyn Monroe. Whatever option is chosen, sleeping without panties would be good for the intimate health of women. Why ? Like the skin or the belly, the vagina has its own microbiota: an ecosystem made up mostly of good bacteria, lactobacilli, which ensure the right balance with the other microorganisms present in the sector.

In the event of an imbalance in the flora, other previously harmless bacteria can proliferate and open the way to mycoses, vaginosis and other troublesome urinary tract infections. Thus, "to maintain the vaginal flora, writes Dr. Saldmann, some specialists recommend women not to wear panties at night. Objective: to ventilate the vaginal area and make it less humid ”. Humidity and heat being "two factors favoring local irritations".

Does the quality of the erection have a link with food?

If more and more of us are concerned about the quality of our food, it would seem that the adage "we are what we eat" also applies to the sexuality of these gentlemen. Spanish researchers have "discovered that a certain amount of nuts eaten daily would increase male sexual function and the intensity of orgasms," says Dr. Saldmann. Nothing surprising when you know that several scientific studies have shown that regular consumption of nuts reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the quality of the erection is directly dependent on the quality of the arteries.

Previously, these same Spanish researchers had already established a link between regular consumption of nuts and quality of sperm. But we are not talking about the salty peanuts of the aperitif, eh! You can treat yourself and take care of your erections by offering yourself a small daily handful of unsalted walnuts (walnuts, Macadamia, almonds or even hazelnuts). Bonus point: it is a healthy and satisfying snack in case of cravings.
