An operating theater in a hospital in Marseille - Gerard Julien AFP

According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, the State validated the property modernization project of the Assistance Publique- Hôpital de Marseille (APHM) and decided to grant it in exchange aid of 168 million euros, which will mainly be used for work on the Timone and North Hospital sites.

The third CHU in France, which has been going from crisis to crisis for years, is facing recurring difficulties, against a backdrop of massive debt. In response, a modernization plan had been launched by the management of Marseilles public hospitals to rectify its accounts.

This plan, validated by the government, includes renovation projects, new ambulatory surgery units, dedicated consultation and day hospital facilities, and above all, the construction of a new building to bring back the maternity of Conception on the Timone campus. The State has decided to finance half of the operation, which will also benefit from aid from local authorities. The announcement was made early in the morning by Yvon Berland, LREM candidate for municipal elections in Marseille.
