Shurijo Castle Fire “No Incident” Announcement of Investigation Results The cause could not be identified and January 29, 19:35

The Okinawa Prefectural Police Headquarters announced on Tuesday that the main building was completely destroyed and that the fire at Shuri Castle in Naha City was not arsonable. On the other hand, regarding the cause of the fire, it is said that there is a high possibility of a trouble in the electrical system. However, the damage of the relics was significant, and it was not possible to identify the specific place or the cause of the fire.

In October last year, a fire broke out at Shuri Castle in Naha City. A fire broke out on the northeast side of the first floor of the main hall, and the main buildings such as the main hall and the north hall were completely destroyed.

Police disclosed the investigation results on the 29th that there was no incidental nature such as arson from analysis of security cameras in and around the main hall on the 29th.

On the other hand, it was clarified that the cause of the fire was not identified, although the possibility of electrical system trouble was high.

Specifically, we identified a "distribution board" found scorched from the northeast side of the first floor of the main hall and 46 wirings that had traces left when electricity shorted. The fact that the building was completely burnt down and the wiring and other relics were severely damaged could not identify the exact location or cause of the fire.

Police reported these findings to Okinawa Prefecture on the 29th and ended a fire investigation.
