One of those who have been upset by the missing comma is author Philip Pullman.

"The Brexit coin lacks an Oxford comma, and should be boycotted by all literate people," he writes in a tweet that has been retweeted 3,500 times.

Not used in Swedish

Three million coins with the text "Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations" will be released on January 31. What the critics react to with the coin is the absence of what is called an Oxford Comma.

Oxford commenting is not used in Swedish, but it means putting a comma before the binding word in a list of several things. Thus, on the Brexit coin, an Oxford Comet would have been between "prosperity" and "and".

"Oxford is what sets us apart from animals"

This is not the first time Oxford has come to debate. In 2011, many were upset when it was erroneously rumored that Oxford University would omit Oxford comment in its formatting guide.

"Oxford is what sets us apart from the animals," a Twitter user wrote at the time.
