Expectations for Downhill have been high, not least because of comedy stars such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell in the lead roles. But the ratings from international film critics are harsh.

"Poor tone and superficial portraits" and "relentlessly drained of everything that was distinct, sharp and original with the model," writes the Hollywood Reporter.

The Guardian does not think that "Downhill" lives up to expectations built up by protagonists Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell, but that Ruben Östlund should "reconsider his blessing of the project".

But at least Indiewire thinks that "Julia Louis-Dreyfus shines in an otherwise unnecessary remake. The Wrap is on the same line regarding Louis-Dreyfus, but at the same time writes that Downhill is a damned version of Östlund's model.

There is no Swedish premiere date for Downhill yet.
