Ten million euros more in the pot. From February 1, the maximum jackpot of Euro Millions, the transnational lottery offered in twelve European countries increases. Capped at 190 million since 2012, it will increase to 200 million, announced on Monday the French Games (FDJ).

"The new jackpot [...] may be put into play during four consecutive draws, before necessarily being won or shared at the lowest winning rank," details the FDJ in a press release.

Ten million euro increments

At the end of this cycle, as long as there is no winner, the gain will increase in steps of ten million euros, up to 250 million euros. And if no player finds the winning combination (5 numbers and 2 stars), the mega jackpot of 250 million will be shared among the winners of rank 2.

Another novelty for 2020 is the faster increase in jackpots to reach the symbolic 100 million euros mark. There will also now be three special draws per year with a guaranteed jackpot of around 130 million euros, compared to two on average currently.

"Offer bigger and faster jackpots"

"The goal is to be able to offer bigger and faster jackpots," confirms the lottery company in Paris . The attractiveness of players is greater when large sums are at stake. ”

The rules of Euro Millions remain unchanged. Players should always choose five numbers, between 1 and 50, as well as two stars between 1 and 12. The price of the grid remains the same, at 2.50 euros, for a minimum jackpot of 17 million euros. The chances of winning will also remain similar, recalls the FDJ, with a one in thirteen chance of winning a prize.
