Out of a total of 2,624 entries submitted, the competition jury has now thinned out 30 names nominated in 17 classes. Two of these are two SVT photographers: Niclas Berglund and Mikael Eriksson. The competition works so that the nominees do not know what contribution they are nominated for or in which class.

For Niclas Berglund, this is not the first time in the competition. In 2018 he took home the first prize in the multimedia category and he thinks that it is an honor to be nominated.

- It feels great fun that both me and Micke Eriksson are nominated. It is very fun that the work we have done can be highlighted again.

"Gives a whole new picture"

Niclas Berglund and Mikael Eriksson's manager highlight the versatility of photographers.

- What characterizes both is their curiosity. Mikael Eriksson has shown the viewers a whole new picture of the Riksdag and domestic politics, while Niclas Berglund has shown us the outside world and given an increased understanding of the conflicts in the world. In addition to being excellent television photographers, both are also very good still photographers, says Maria Ihlstedt, group director for photographers at SVT Nyheter.

In 2019, Mikael Eriksson did the documentary Maktkampen together with reporter Mari Forssblad. The documentary gave a unique insight into the dramatic months when Sweden was without government. Photo: Mikael Eriksson / SVT

Students among the nominees

The list of nominees contains, year after year, some names that are constantly returning, but this year there are also several new names.

- It is extra fun that there are four students on the list this year. It is gratifying for the regrowth, says the competition jury chairman Göran Stenberg.

The winners of the various categories will be revealed at the awards ceremony on March 21 in Helsingborg.
