German dentist Jochen Schmidt warned against cleaning the toothbrush with vinegar, disinfectant or cleaning fluid, as these substances cause the bristles to spill, and then you cannot clean the teeth properly.

Instead, the German doctor recommends cleaning the brush by soaking it in an antibacterial mouthwash for 15 minutes, taking care to wash it under running water before and after use.

The brush should be kept in a cup so that the head is facing upwards, taking into account not to keep it in a lid when the head is wet; since these conditions constitute an ideal environment for bacteria to reproduce.

The toothbrush cup should be cleaned from time to time in the dishwasher. In general, the toothbrush should be changed every three months.
