Michou in 2013. - LAURENT BENHAMOU / SIPA

The legend of the night world has died out. Michou died at the age of 88, his press secretary said. The man in blue, who had confided for his 87 years with France Sunday in June 2018, had everything planned for his funeral. "Thirty years ago, I reserved a place in the Saint-Vincent cemetery, in the heart of Montmartre, where Denise, my spiritual mother already rests." With his legendary good humor, he had specified: "We will all leave one day, then death, I prefer to laugh about it".

A remarkable imitation of France Gall

Patron of the Cabaret of transformist artists, located at number 80 rue des Martyrs in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, he succeeded in making this place a real institution and an essential place for tourists.

He arrived in Paris in 1949 where he started working as a tiler and then as a waiter. After a detour to Germany where he did his military service, he returned to the capital in 1953. In the 1960s, he was noticed by Tout-Paris with his imitation number of France Gall for which he was dancing half naked. Since July 13, 1956, Michou has been present every evening in his cabaret. Famous for his kitsch outfits, his famous blue glasses and his peroxidized brushing, he had become a legendary figure of Montmartre.
