The cast of season 5 of "Skam France". - Thibault GRABHERR

  • The third episode of the 5th season of Skam France will be available this Friday at 6 p.m. on France.tv Slash.
  • This season follows the fate of Arthur, a teenager confronted with the appearance of "sudden deafness".
  • For this fifth season, the “Skamfamily” worked with two deaf actors, Winona Guyon and Lucas Wild. They told 20 Minutes what they had learned from this experience.

“It was a shock! ", According to Robin Migné, the interpreter of Arthur. The filming of the fifth season of Skam France , broadcast on France TV Slash, which follows the fate of Arthur, a teenager confronted with the appearance of “sudden deafness”, was not a filming like the others. First of all, because this season is a 100% original creation, since the format of Norwegian origin stopped at the end of its 4th season. But also because it includes two deaf characters, Noée and Camille, played by Winona Guyon and Lucas Wild, embodied by two deaf actors.

"At first, the theme of deafness scared me"

"At the start, the theme of deafness frightened me, very honestly, because I didn't know this world at all," says Robin Migné, who plays Arthur. To understand this world and deaf culture, the actor followed a 35-hour training course in sign languages at the International Visual Theater (IVT), association and laboratory of artistic, linguistic and pedagogical research on sign language, which accompanied the Skam France teams during this season.

"I was under a lot of pressure because this is the first season 5 of Skam in the world and it focuses on my character. In the end, I got caught up and fear became a driving force, ”continues the actor. The young man remains very humble compared to the success of Skam France and the excitement around his character: "I have absolutely no idea why but there was a scale around the character of Arthur at the end of season 3 , even if it was a supporting role. It's still beyond me, I feel like I won the Loto, ”he jokes.

"I learned to connect with others"

“When I first went to IVT with the director, David Hourrègue, and the author, Niels Rahou, we find ourselves in another country. We feel a bit lost because we discover a world that we don't usually enter, he says. It was an extraordinary adventure for which I was not prepared. I took a big slap ”. And to greet his sign language teacher and his deaf partners: “My sign language teacher is a real actor. Because with sign language, you play with your whole body. The deaf actors helped me a lot and taught me a lot. I had to learn both to disconnect from the sound to play someone who is deaf, but also to connect with others. "

What did he learn from this experience? "Deaf and hard of hearing people do not like the term" disability "and they are right. And they explained to us that they just had a different way of living, he sums up. They live differently, more intensely than we do, when they communicate, they are forced to look each other in the eyes ”. "They are warriors, all of them," he adds. And to deplore: "They are before our eyes and we see them so little. "

Maxence Danet-Fauvel, the interpreter of Eliott, also lost his bearings a little on this filming: "When I joined the adventure last year, the filming of Skam was a huge nameless mess, where everything the world was shouting at each other very kindly. And on this season, I discovered a room where 100 people are and nobody speaks, it was extraordinary. "

"I took a slap in dance with them"

The "Skamily" has grown: "We have all become friends", rejoices Robin Migné. As in the series, the cement between deaf and hard of hearing actors on the set was made thanks to the party. "I had a party at Winona's house. His parents (also deaf) went to bed and we were able to leave the sound to the maximum, "he says again.

Same story with Philippine Stindel, who plays Emma: “I didn't learn sign language so it was difficult to communicate with deaf and hard of hearing actors. By cons, I took a slap in dance with them. We do parties at the end of the week during the shooting and we have to see them on a dance floor, it's a sick thing. "

“The atmosphere on the set of Skam France is quite family-friendly, we are a real group, and the end of the shoot for this season was quite heartbreaking. With Skam France, each time we open up to subjects that we had not necessarily thought about before, ”congratulates Paul Scarfoglio, who plays Basile.

"Sign language is theater"

The actors found another essential common point: the love of the game. “I also discovered a world that I did not know and I fell in love with that world. Sign language is theater, signing is the face and the whole body. I find it magnificent, ”says Coline Preher, the interpreter of Alexia, Arthur's girlfriend in the series. He added: "They cannot speak to hearing people, but they have so much to say. We have all learned a lot from them. "

"It's a world I didn't know. These are incredible encounters, ”confirms Lula Cotton-Frapier, who plays Daphne. "It is a great chance, to witness what Arthur is going through, Skam France allows us each year either to discover something, or to get up to date by changing our vision of things, it makes us better one season to the next, ”adds Moussa Sylla, alias Idriss in the series.

Skam France is a crazy adventure. I am honored and hyperfier to be part of the series from the start. It's crazy to have been able to do these seasons 5 and 6 and to deal with subjects that we don't talk about. Shooting Skam France is very enriching, because we learn every day. Finally, it is good in 2020 to show today's society on television, ”concludes Assa Sylla, who camps on the screen Imane, Idriss's little sister.
