RTL is no longer allowed to make recordings in court during the Ruinerwold case. The board of the Northern Netherlands court decided this after a sound clip with the voice of suspect Josef B. was played in the talk show Jinek .
RTL Boulevard provided the image and sound recordings in the courtroom during the case, which other media could subsequently take over. To protect the privacy of the suspects, they were not allowed to make a video or audio recording. However, during the statement by suspect Josef B. a sound recording was made, a fragment of which was played during the episode of Jinek on 21 February.
"The court explicitly prohibited the sound recording of the statement of the suspect, because that had to be respected for the privacy of the suspect," the court said in a statement.
Ewart van der Horst, the editor-in-chief of Jinek , told Het Dagblad van het Noorden on Wednesday that they were not aware of that restriction: "We did not know about the guidelines. This was not done intentionally," says Van der Horst. The editors of Jinek had obtained that recording according to the court via RTL Boulevard .
The board of the Northern Netherlands court has now decided that RTL may not make recordings during the remainder of the trial. The broadcaster may also no longer record for three months at the other cases in the court of Assen.
